The Kerry Blue Terrier has a long, silky coat that should not be straight or wavy, but should be of medium length.

The hair should be of a medium length that will lie close to the pet's body. The Kerry Blue should have some areas of hair missing on the head but should have dark hair above the eyes.

Kerry Blues may vary from blonde to very dark, usually where the hair is a deep steel blue. The hair should clearly show the shoulders and the ends of the eyelids. Additionally, the ears should be of medium length and set close to the head. The nature of the dog is very classic in that it is a working dog, but at the same time it is also a companion dog, very good with children and so on. The Kerry Blue should have dark eyes and it should be straight with no curly tail. It is a well proportioned dog, with a broad and rounded skull, a deep chest, and a wide, open skull.

The Kerry Blue has many talents. It can be a good watch dog, family pet, field companion and hunting dog. It is a very athletic dog, absolutely fearless, devoted to its family and will protect them with its life, and bark loud and long when a stranger comes to the house.
